Adelide is a Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter crafting a signature brand of soul-pop that weaves coolly personal lyricism with twinkling synthesizers and lush guitars. Her music lives in a world of implied intimacy—like the corner of an old photograph or an overheard conversation—creating space to reimagine and confront the past through haze, fog machines, and strobe lights.
Born Kayla Raquel Schwartz and raised in South Florida, Adelide fell in love with music at an early age. A pivotal moment came in first grade with the discovery of an Ella Fitzgerald CD, igniting a lifelong dedication to music and formal study. She began training in piano, guitar, and voice, learning jazz standards alongside the music of artists like Aretha Franklin and Donna Summer. While she initially wrote original pop songs, her focus gradually shifted toward straight-ahead jazz as her technical training deepened.
In 2017, Adelide earned a bachelor’s degree in Studio Music and Jazz Vocal Performance from the Frost School of Music. Though these years were formative in developing professional musicianship, she began to feel that limiting her artistic scope to jazz alone was distancing her from some of the music she loved most.
She continued her studies at the New England Conservatory of Music, receiving her master’s degree in Jazz Studies in 2019. It was during her time at NEC that Adelide rediscovered her passion for writing original music, finally merging her technical foundation with long-dormant pop sensibilities.
During the pandemic, Adelide reunited with the guitar after a ten-year hiatus, which has since become her primary songwriting tool. With the world paused and creative outlets limited, she wrote the material that would form her self-titled debut EP, released in 2022. Since then, Adelide has maintained a steady stream of singles, with more releases planned for 2025 and a larger project on the horizon.
