SHY FRiEND is what happens when a queer, prairie-based, chronically online, and toxically self-determined artist collides with the realities of the music industry in late-stage capitalism. Their work is brutally honest, tragically dramatic, and powered by unapologetic feminine rage.
Blending alt, pop, and punk energy, SHY FRiEND creates music that is cathartic, confrontational, and emotionally charged. Since 2023, they have been transforming the Alberta music scene into a kind of church for queer, alternative, pop, and punk misfits—a space to gather, feel seen, and scream it out together.
At the heart of SHY FRiEND’s world is their mantra: “TO BE CRINGE IS TO BE FREE.” It’s both a philosophy and a battle cry, rejecting shame in favor of self-expression, vulnerability, and excess.
